There's nothing quite like it in professional wrestling. If there's a more anticipated event in the business, I've never heard of it. It arrives like a freight train and hits just as hard. And the moment it's over, the buzz for the next one begins to grow.

Dangerous Games is almost here. In just about two weeks, someone will join a list that reads like a who's-who of GCW legends. For the uninitiated, here's a quick look at Dangerous Games past:

2001: The event that started it all also ended with its most controversial winner. Shane Lane bested crowd favorites Luke Hanson, John Reed and Trash to earn his GCW Title shot. Lane has gone down in infamy, but his performance still helped establish Dangerous Games as GCW's top draw.

2002: With GCW relaunching and the World Title vacant, President Steven Caldera put the belt up for grabs for whomever could emerge from the field. Twizzy battled Toxic in a brutal final showdown and won the match and his only World Title reign.

2005: Michael "Spitfire" Stevens broke through with a career-making victory, though it very nearly broke him. His reward for winning the 2005 Dangerous Games match? Three bloody, brutal wars with GCW Champion LeStatt Knight before he finally captured gold.

2006: Lia Ambrosi, then known as Shadow, ushered in a new era in GCW as the leader of Dies Irae destroyed GCW's established stars and went on to win the GCW Title.

2007: After a year of dominance, Ambrosi found herself facing her protege, 2007 winner Vivica J. Valentine. Valentine established herself as one of GCW's all-time greats with this signature win.

2008: He had done it all: two-time GCW Champion, Grand Slam winner, Hall of Fame honoree. In 2008, LeStatt Knight added Dangerous Games Winner to his long list of accomplishments with a dominating win.

2009: For the first time in history, a wrestler not on the pre-announced entry list arrived and surprised the field. Jay Terror returned in shocking fashion as Steven Caldera's hand-chosen winner, doing his mentor proud by entering at #30 and winning the match.

The obvious trend? Every one of these wrestlers, save perhaps Lane, went on to cement their spots in GCW lore. The other pattern?

Every single Dangerous Games winner has gone on to win the GCW World Heavyweight Title.

It took Lane only 3 days. It look Jay Terror 6 months. But in the end, everyone who has won the Dangerous Games match has used their victory as a springboard to joining the most elite list in professional wrestling-- the men and women who has been called GCW World Champion.

That's no guarantee that this year's winner will eventually claim the gold. But history has a habit of repeating itself, and there is no greater opportunity than getting a shot at the biggest prize in the game on the biggest stage in wrestling, the main event of NC-17.

So who will emerge from the field to join this hallowed list as 2010 Dangerous Games winner? Here's how I see it:

The Long Shots

Dan Black
The Bulldozer has a combination of size, strength and experience that could serve him well in this match. Black has been patiently waiting for his big break, and has always seemed one big win away from joining the ranks of the top players. Perhaps this is the night he finally stops waiting and makes it happen.

Donny Diamond
The monstrous, intense Diamond has a mean streak that few in this match can equal. Battling with former GCW World Champion and all-time eliminations leader Bryan Mayhem has drawn quite a bit of attention to Diamond in recent weeks. Could he explode out of the pack and claim victory?

Triumph Frost
GCW's first double champion since Rich "The Renegade" Rollins has come on like a storm. His talent is undeniable, but does he have the maturity to make it through a field of 30? One thing is for sure, his taste for gold has not been quenched by his Television and Hardcore title reigns. He's ready for more.

Dominic Wall
Wall's defeat of Triumph Frost for the Television Title put him on the map. Ever since his debut, Wall has garnered praise as GCW's next big thing. But let's face it, there's one reason why everyone will be watching him in this match: he's got former winner and greatest-of-all-time LeStatt Knight guiding him.

In The Mix

Chris Bagwell
Maybe this time Bagwell has bitten off more than he can chew. Though Bagwell's mouth typically paints a large target on his chest, he may have more enemies than ever heading into the 2010 Dangerous Games match. Still, you have to think Bagwell is due for a career-making win, and this could be his time.

Bryan Mayhem
Did I mention this guy has the record for most eliminations in Dangerous Games? That's both the one-year record and the all-time record. This man is an elimination machine. One of these days he'll eliminate all 29 competitors and only stop when the final bell rings.

Rasa
Who knows how it will fare in its first Dangerous Games match. The violent and enigmatic Rasa, no matter what you may think of it, will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with in this year's event. And with Christian Zenith at its side, it may have all the edge it needs to win it all.

Shaman
Shaman has had some excellent showings in Dangerous Games himself. He's been here before and last year seemed to figure out how best to maximize the advantages of his size while minimizing its liabilities. This year Shaman stands to be more motivated than ever. He's come close to GCW gold before and wants another taste.

The Favorites

Clyde Fox
He came within a hair of becoming GCW World Champion at Rampage. Fox has never been quite so close to breaking through. He's on the verge now and seems primed to enter NC-17 in the main event spot against the GCW Champion. This may be his moment of destiny, but there are 29 other wrestlers desperate to make sure his wait will continue.

Andy Murray
Just weeks after his devastating World Title loss to LeStatt Knight, Andy Murray kicked off his Dangerous Games victory campaign. GCW's biggest star has had his sights set on this match all year and has been preparing diligently. With no Knight to stop him this time, Murray is hellbent on winning Dangerous Games and getting his World Title back.

Vivica J. Valentine
There is no more accomplished Dangerous Games competitor in the field. Last year's runner up. 2007 winner. More accumulated time spent in Dangerous Games than anyone else (and it's not close). Her quest to become the first two-time winner has become a major annual storyline. Is this the year she finally does the unthinkable and adds to her legend?

The Field

Listen, this is just one man's opinion. It's easy to pick the stars as the favorites. But believe me when I say this is anyone's ballgame. You may look at the list of past winners and assume it's only the top stars that win this match. But remember this: winning Dangerous Games MAKES you a big star. In 2001, nobody had heard of Shane Lane before he won. Twizzy was written off as washed up before he cleaned up. Michael Stevens was just one of a handful of possible big players before he conquered in 2005. Vivica J. Valentine was written off as dead and buried in 2007 before coming screaming back to take the match. Only Knight and Terror were established stars before winning the match.

So discount the rest of the field at your peril. We say this every year, but in 2010 it's more true than ever: this is the most talented Dangerous Games field in GCW history. The wrestler that breaks through this year will be a star, even if they aren't already. That much is guaranteed.

My personal pick is someone I didn't mention in the above list. My pick is the sparkly one herself, Tempest. I think she's primed to become this year's Twizzy, this year's Michael Stevens, this year's Valentine. She's got all the talent, she's been proven in the ring for almost a decade. She's a star ready to be reborn atop the company. Dangerous Games is always full of surprises, and this year I think we get our first upset in a while and see Tempest march into NC-17 to take on the Champion.

Be sure to order Dangerous Games on Pay-Per-View. Contact your cable or satellite provider. Watch live online here at GCWOnline.net. Go to a bar. Go to a friend's house. Watch through your neighbor's window. Whatever you do, do not miss this show.

There's no telling what's going to happen or who's going to win. But you can guarantee history will be made as another name joins the history books as a GCW legend.
